Parent and Grandparent Visa

Individuals must meet the following requirements to be eligible for Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program:

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or a registered Indian under the Indian Act of Canada.
• You must be at least 18 years old.
• Be a Canadian resident (possible applicants must present proof of status during the Interest to Sponsor phase);
• Exceed the minimum required income level for this programme (if married or in a common-law relationship, both the sponsor and spouse’s income can be included) and submit IRCC with proof of income; and
• Sign an agreement

1. to provide financial support to the sponsored for a period of 20 years (beginning when they become permanent residents); and
2. must reimburse any social assistance benefits received by sponsored family members (if applicable) over a 20-year period
3. If the sponsor resides in Quebec, an additional “undertaking” with the province of Quebec must be signed.
4. Applicants to the PGP must present notices of assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) in support of their application to demonstrate that they fulfil the minimum income requirements.
